# bhavcopy.live

> Free end-of-day market data for the Indian stock market (NSE): daily prices, returns, 52-week ranges, delivery percentages, corporate actions, index levels and top movers for every NSE-listed symbol. Updated once per trading day after market close (around 23:30 IST).

The website is a JavaScript app, so its HTML pages have no data for agents to read. Use the plain JSON and Markdown files below instead. They need no API key, accept cross-origin requests and are refreshed on every data update.

## How to look up a stock

1. Fetch https://bhavcopy.live/agents/symbols.json and find the entry whose `symbol` or `name` matches the query (case-insensitive; e.g. "reliance" -> RELIANCE).
2. Fetch that entry's `markdown` URL for a readable summary, or its `json` URL for structured data.

If you already know the NSE symbol, build the URL directly: https://bhavcopy.live/agents/stocks/{slug}.md, where `slug` is the uppercase symbol with every character other than A-Z, 0-9 and "-" replaced by "_" (RELIANCE -> RELIANCE, M&M -> M_M, BAJAJ-AUTO -> BAJAJ-AUTO). A missing symbol returns a JSON body with `"success": false`.

## Field notes

- Prices are in INR. Historical prices are adjusted for splits and bonuses, so returns are comparable across corporate actions.
- `marketCapCrore` and institutional activity values are in INR crore (1 crore = 10 million).
- `instrumentType` separates `equity` and `sme-equity` from `government-security`, `state-development-loan`, `treasury-bill`, `sovereign-gold-bond` and `debt`. `capCategory` is only set for equities.
- `stale: true` means the symbol has not traded for 90+ sessions (usually renamed, merged or delisted).
- A field is `null` (or "—" in Markdown) when the exchange file did not provide it.
- `asOf` is the latest trading date in the data. Check it before treating a value as today's.

## Full history

The app's own files under https://bhavcopy.live/market_data/ are also public, but use short keys meant for the app. For a symbol's full daily history since 2015, `links.fullHistory` in each stock JSON points to `/market_data/equity-details/{SYMBOL}.json`: parallel arrays where `p` holds positions in https://bhavcopy.live/market_data/dates.json (newest first), and `c` close, `o` open, `lo` low, `cp` change, `v` volume, `dp` delivery %. Please prefer the /agents/ files; the history chunk files are large.
